Dades Valley

Evening light over the Dades valley: red rock, poplars and a kasbah village

The Dades valley is the “road of a thousand kasbahs”: a green ribbon between the High Atlas and the Jbel Saghro, with mud-brick fortresses in every village and a gorge of hairpin bends above Boumalne.

The hairpin bends of the Dades gorge road cut into the cliff

It is where most three- and four-day tours spend their first night, halfway between Marrakech and the dunes. The Kelaa M’Gouna rose harvest in May scents the whole valley.

The famous hairpins are ten kilometres above Boumalne Dades; the viewpoint at the top is a standard sunset stop before the guesthouse.
